Dr. Ott who developed Full Spectrum Lighting did many studies to compare the effectiveness of FSL
compared to fluorescent and incandescent lighting.  Here are some of the results.

Mice were placed under four different types of light in an otherwise identical environment.
- under pink fluorescent light, the mice lived an average of 7.5 months
- under cool white (standard office) fluorescents, they lived 8.2 months
- under Full Spectrum Fluorescents with balanced trace ultraviolet, they lived 15.6 months
- under natural sunlight they lived 16.1 months.

In another study, chickens lived twice as long under full spectrum light as under regular incandescent lights.  They were also calmer, attacked each other less, and their eggs contained 25% less cholesterol.  

Male adult lab rats usually have to be removed before their children are born, to prevent them from eating their offspring.  When the lighting is switched from cool white fluorescent to full spectrum, they become loving fathers.

The Environmental Health and Research Institute undertook a study involving four first grade classrooms in Sarasota, Florida.  Full-spectrum UV shielded fluorescent fixtures were installed in one of two identical windowless classrooms.  The results were video taped randomly and compared.  Under the cool white fluorescent lighting some students demonstrated hyperactivity, fatigue, irritability, and attention deficits.  In the full spectrum lighting classroom behavior and classroom performance improved markedly within one month.  Furthermore, several learning disabled children with extreme hyperactivity problems miraculously calmed down and seemed to overcome some of their learning and
reading problems. Test results improved by 10% - 23% in the full spectrum lighting classroom.

It was also found that children under full spectrum lighting developed one third as many cavities in their teeth.  Similar results were also reported in 3 other test schools.  To confirm this, researchers raised hamsters for a period of fifteen weeks under cool white fluorescent lighting and fed them a cavity
producing diet.  The developed 5 times as many cavities as hamsters fed the same diet under full
spectrum lighting.  This confirmed research done in 1930 which showed that cavities were higher
during the school year.  The consensus is.....the more sunlight, the less cavities.

Many other studier have confirmed the benefits of Full Spectrum Lighting.  In 1978 researchers
documented the successful use of Full Spectrum Lighting as an anti-depressant.  In the Dec 8, 1993
issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association, use of Full Spectrum Lighting was regarded
as first line treatment for SAD.    Full Spectrum Light Therapy is endorsed by the American Psychiatric
Association and the National Institute of Mental Health.

In Germany, Austria, and New Zealand, it is illegal to use anything but Full Spectrum Lighting in all
medical facilities.
